**IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT**

Aloha HPU ‘ohana,

In anticipation of Hurricane Lane's projected pass near/over O‘ahu, Hawai‘i Pacific University will close its campuses on Thursday, Aug. 23 through Saturday, Aug. 25. Our O‘ahu campus activities, including those on our downtown and Hawaiʻi Loa campuses, the Oceanic Institute of HPU at Makapuʻu Point, and all Oʻahu military base locations, are canceled Thursday through Saturday.
Employees designated “essential” — with responsibilities related to campus emergency operations — will be asked to report to work by their supervisors. For all others, there is no need to come to campus or offices while we are closed.

As a safety precaution, employees are requested to please power down all office electronics before leaving today, including computers, printers, and monitors. If possible, please unplug them. If your office is in danger of flooding, we ask that you please remove electronics from the floor. Please secure confidential information and lock all doors before you leave.

Re: Orientation Week events: Wednesday evening’s new student and family orientation at Aloha Tower will continue as planned at 5:30 p.m. tonight and will include our Convocation keynote address by vice president of Southwest Airlines University, Elizabeth Bryant. Convocation and all other orientation week activities scheduled Thursday through Saturday are cancelled.
Shuttle service will be suspended Thursday-Sunday and resume normal operations on Monday, Aug. 27.

The university's Emergency Operations Team will continue monitoring Hurricane Lane’s progress and potential impacts.

Should storm-related issues impede normal operations following Saturday, updates will be shared Sunday on the university website (www.hpu.edu).

Please be safe, and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Mahalo,
HPU Emergency Operations Team
